Project ThUMB 2019<\/a> (Croatian Science Foundation) has a call for applications for its Summer School in Philosophy of the Life Sciences: Molecular Biology and Evolution<\/em>, which will take place at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Rijeka (University of Rijeka, Croatia), from July 15 to July 18, 2019.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Summer School has three main objectives: (1) assessing\nnew trends in philosophy of molecular biology (including mechanistic\nexplanation, reductionism, gene concepts, genome evolution); (2) focusing on\ndifferent ways through which current practice in molecular biology might\nrefresh discussion of some traditional philosophical and methodological issues\nin general philosophy of science, such as, but not limited to, model-building,\nscientific explanation, and evidence; (3) offering support to the attendees\u2019\nfuture research careers by establishing group and individual interactions among\nthe peers and with the School\u2019s speakers and advisors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The target group of the Summer School attendees are\nearly stage researchers (post-docs, PhD students, late stage MA students), but\nalso other interested researchers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In order to apply, please, send a short CV and 500 word abstract on a topic that you would like to present at the Summer School. Please submit the material in a pdf form to Predrag \u0160ustar, psustar@uniri.hr<\/a>The submission deadline is May 15 2019.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Accepted applicants will not be charged with a tuition\nfee. Coffee, refreshments and lunches will be provided by the organizer. There\nis a possibility for accommodation in student housing at a reduced fee\n(however, the places are limited so it will work on a first-come first-served\nbasis).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We invite all interested participants to apply and\nspend productive 4-days with prominent keynote speakers and advisors in\npleasant surroundings of northern Adriatic coastal city of Rijeka, Croatia\n(European Capital of Culture 2020).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
